Life History research 2
My focus for two weeks was Brandt and here is another quote “People were not given equal educational opportunities, and it is interesting to know that at the turn of events and time, like other Americans, African Americans have been under pressures of waves of social, economic, and communication changes associated with migrations from farms to cities and shifts from industrial manufacturing to information-based work” (109).

Brandt informs her readers especially me on how migration of blacks and the poor whites from the farms to the cities brought about the pressure on literacy acquisition. Revolution began to take place, people started to realize that they needed education to get better jobs. They needed education to move from the realm of voiceless people to people that can speak for themselves. So reading and writing became very vital in order to blend with the advent of change as those who were literate were chosen over those who were not. One obvious point in her narration is the medium in which the African-Americans learnt how to read and write; the church and family members which she calls Sponsorship.
