Life History Research 1
Chapter 1-3 of Debra Brandt’s Literacy in American “black folk’s literacy grew more slowly than the whites (29).

Brandt’s explains literacy as a social and political problem that up till now, adequate solution has not been provided. As at that time, acquisition of literacy depended on regions, that is to say, some regions were more favorable than others. Not only that, black’s level of literacy acquisition was much slower than the white folks. She did not discuss men’s education alone, but compared it to that of the women. To me, women’s education whether blacks or whites had a snail movement (my emphasis). But what I really learn from this reading is that, it gives a detailed description of the educational system as that time of slavery.

I do love that bit from Brandt's research. Of course I love so much of it, but that in particular is quite useful to me.
ReplyDeleteI love that too and that is going to be part of my presentation as well. Thank you Professor Shannon for this wonderful comment.
