In the Archives 1
“As scholars, we have an ethical responsibility to members of the community we
study and, in the case of historical subjects, to their descendants, who have a
right to the respectful and dignified treatment if their ancestors”(25).

Davis Gold essay on Beyond the Archives to me is an eye opener. This is because, it teaches young academic researchers on what to do, where to go, who to ask, and what to ask, and how to ask questions and make inquiries. One of the things that really make sense to me here is that, I can connect the quote above and apply it to my field work in my present project and during my dissertation too. Of course it is our responsibility as researchers to respect those and what we use for our research. Gold’s idea also connects to how to obtain permission/signatures for participants to grant interviews just like Sunstein and Chisseri-Strater discussed in their book: FieldWorking.

However, Gold states that research could be done on anything of our area of interest. All we need to do is be ready to spend money and time, and above all, we have to be focused. I am glad to have learnt new things indeed!
